The BOM (Bureau Of Meterology) had scared many away with predicted almost un-flyable cross winds for our strip and this resulted in not many turning up on Saturday and for those who did, it initially looked as if the forecast was correct but then it changed and we were rewarded with one of the best flying afternoons you could ask for. A total of 25 flights with enough instructors, students, planes and pilots to keep the whole day moving along and then late in the afternoon there was strong lift wherever you looked and wherever you went. The day finished with John Feeney in the 304C flying along the street cloud joined by Gav & Kael in the K21, and John and Rob in the K13. taking photos of each other. Thanks to Dave Donald, John Stockwell and Michael McLachlan for instructing, Nigel Arnot tug pilot and Gavin Foster as duty pilot. Congratulations to Gavin Foster who completed his C Certificate training with a paddock landing and passenger rating flights.
Flight of the day was John Feeney with 5 ½ hours.
(Editor' Note The weather at Boonah is not the same as the costal forecast even when the BOM get's it right.)
Happy Crowds! Sunday 11 Jan
The weather brought the pilots and visitors back to Boonah on Sunday in droves. Several unofficial counts had a fairly constant 35 happy people there for most of the day. We had every twin and most of the single seat planes out and either in the air or waiting for a tow. A total of 33 flights for this day into a sky where 5 and 6 kt averages were common and the odd 10kt thermal recorded. Thanks to Ross Hall and Graham Kohr for instructing, Tony Sorenson tug pilot with Mike Maddocks flying some tows during Tony’s breaks, Adam Henderson successful in his first day as duty pilot Mike Maddocks also tried to spin Kaels lunch out of him during Kaels aerobatic training. He held it well. We also welcomed a new instructot in Lisa Turner. Lisa is joining the Instructor panel and you will see her name on the roster soon. Lisa is a serious cross country pilot based in Kingaroy. Flight of the day was Steve Thomas 4 1/2 hours again in a 304. I envy those of you flying these beautiful aircraft. Hopefully I'll get the chance soon enough.
